Trapattoni comments kickstart media adrenalin rush...30/04/2012
The 'Croagh Patrick Charity Walk' was ostensively the reason for Giovanni Trapattoni's presence in Ireland on Saturday last. His observations at the press conference that afternoon were, not for the first time, the catalyst for a frenzied rush of media and public speculation relating to his twenty three man squad for the upcoming European Championship Finals. The somewhat 'cryptic' comments relating to perceived problems with an established squad member hinted at opportunity for the inclusion of James McClean in the EURO squad. Next Monday's formal squad announcement should clarify matters (well maybe!), but if one reviews the original twenty four man squad selected for the Czech Republic encounter on 29 February last, the likely exclusion of Seamus Coleman, repeatedly referred to by Trapattoni as a full back, would leave an apparently logical twenty three man squad and structure in place. Should the unnecessary comments concerning an unidentified player have substance, then perhaps, McClean may indeed be the beneficiary.

Scottish Cup semi-final delight for Irish contingent...15/04/2012
The Irish contingent at Edinburgh club Hibernian were in rapture as their side defeated Aberdeen by two goals to one in the Scottish Cup semi-final on Saturday afternoon. The management duo of Pat Fenlon and Liam O'Brien together with players Matthew Doherty, Graham Stack and substitutes Eoin Doyle and Roy O'Donovan together with loanee Richie Towell, who missed out yesterday, will look forward to the Hampden Park final against local rivals Heart of Midlothian, for whom Stephen Elliott was in the starting eleven, who replicated the same scoring sequence to defeat Glasgow Celtic in the second semi-final this afternoon. The Easter Road Irish will be seeking to help the club lift a trophy which, rather astonishingly, they have not won in one hundred and ten years and indeed the two Edinburgh clubs last contested the Scottish Cup final in 1896.
