Manager Paul Cook and Sligo Rovers part company...30/01/2009
It has been announced this morning that manager Paul Cook has, by mutual consent, departed Sligo Rovers. It is understood that assistant manager Gerry Carr will take temporary control of the Club.


Lansdowne Road to host 2011 Europa League Final...29/01/2009
UEFA, together with the Football Association of Ireland and Dublin City Council today confirmed that the 2011 Europa League Final will be played at the new Lansdowne Road Stadium. The competition, formerly the UEFA Cup has been rebranded with effect from this year 2009 and the 2011 final will be the 40th anniversary of the competition.


U21 squad announced by Don Givens in Cork today...27/01/2009
The Republic of Ireland Under 21 squad to face Germany in Turners Cross on Tuesday 10 February 2009, was unveiled by manager Don Givens in Cork this morning. Nineteen year old Dutch born defender Barry Maguire, whose father hails from Dublin, has been included in the squad for the first time.

First Division club Athlone Town have announced the appointment of Brendan Place as their new manager while UCD have confirmed the appointment of Martin Russell to their managerial position. The announcement of new signings Paul Keegan and Brian Shelley, both formerly with Drogheda United, by Pat Fenlon for Bohemian FC would seem to end the recent speculation concerning the manager's tenure at Dalymount Park.

Cork City triumph in Under 20 Final ...25/01/2009
An absorbing contest was finally decided by a Paul Deasy penalty in extra time, the only goal of the game, for Cork City to lift the
inaugural Dr Tony O'Neill Under 20 League of Ireland Championship against Bohemian FC in the competition final played in O'Shea Park, Blarney this afternoon.

Ireland Futsal squad travel to Northern Spain...23/01/2009
Republic of Ireland Futsal manager Derek O'Neill takes his squad to Spain for a training camp coupled with a friendly fixture against Marfil Santa Coloma on Tuesday of next week. The trip forms part of the preparation for the European Championship Qualifying group which takes place in Dublin from 19th to 22nd February 2009. Ireland will face Cyprus, England and Kazakstan in their first ever excursion into the qualifiers.


More Top Tier sponsorship for League of Ireland...22/01/2009
FAI Chief Executive John Delaney today announced another Top Tier League of Ireland sponsorship agreement, with independent broadcaster Newstalk 106-108FM. The arrangement, for three years, will commence in March 2009 and the new partner will will also be title sponsor of the 'Newstalk A Championship'. Newstalk joins betting partner Boyle Sports and communications partner Eircom as part of the restructured commercial arrangement for the League.


RISSC maintain league championship challenge..18/01/2009
The RISSC (London) football team maintained their position at the top of the APFSCIL First Division with an excellent three nil away victory over Hull City SC this afternoon. First half substitute Ian Rose, playing his first game of the season, opened the scoring with a glancing header just before half-time. Another towering header from centre back Mick Conway, following an Adrian Ward corner, put RISSC in complete control and leading goalscorer Mick Dunford tucked away the third goal to embellish another solid performance.


Jeff Kenna switches to Richmond Park...14/01/2009
The League of Ireland managerial barometer swung into action again this afternoon with confirmation that Galway United manager Jeff Kenna has switched allegiance to St Patrick's Athletic and will take up his new position on 21 January 2009. Former Assistant Manager Ian Foster will replace Kenna at Galway United.

The appointment of former Drogheda United manager Paul Doolin to the vacant post at Cork City will be formally confirmed at a press conference on Thursday. The casualty list continues to grow with the departure of Pete Mahon from his five year stay at UCD. Former assistant Martin Russell is to take the reins in a caretaker capacity.

The latest casualty on the League of Ireland managerial merry-go-round is Johnny McDonnell at St Patrick's Athletic, whose departure was confirmed today by Chief Executive Richard Sadlier.

New managers generate League of Ireland activity...08/01/2009
The triumvirate of newly appointed League of Ireland managers, Sean Connor, Alan Gough and Stephen Henderson have each been busy with the acquisition of new players for their respective clubs. Dundalk manager Connor has followed up the acquisition of Thomas Heary from Bohemian by signing Donegal native Sean Kelly from Hearts in Edinburgh while former Sligo Rovers and Bohemian pair, Darren Mansaren and Harpel Singh have also signed. New Longford Town boss Gough, has acquired the services of Colm Jinks and Jason McCarthy from local rivals Athlone Town . Meanwhile, new Waterford United manager Henderson has raided former club Cobh Ramblers to sign Graham Cummins and John Kearney.
