Charity Quiz evening proves another resounding success
Our eight annual Charity Quiz event took place at the Crown Moran Hotel in Cricklewood on Friday evening and proved to be another resounding success. Following a tension packed night of inquisition style interrogation by the mercurial Michael Mulvaney, the trophies and a multitude of plaudits went to the winning trio of Kevin O'Keeffe, Mark O'Neill and Paul O'Connor. The proceeds from the evening, together with voluntary donations and raffles, total more than £1,500 and will be presented to this year's nominated charity,
Children's Liver Disease Ireland.

January - birthday boom month for Irish boys...03/01/2013
Ireland U21 Head Coach Noel King may face a fiscal crisis this month, should he elect to send out birthday cards to his potential squad members for the upcoming friendly against Holland and the subsequent UEFA Championship campaign. Birthday chimes rang on New Year's Day for Shane Duffy (21). Others attaining 21 this month include Robbie Brady and Aaron McCarey (14th), Matt Doherty (16th), Jeff Hendrick (31st) while Derrick Williams hits 20 on the 17th. Throw in the senior quartet of Keith Fahey (15th), Shane Long (22nd), Paul McShane (6th) and Glenn Whelan (13th) and perhaps we should be checking our calendar dates for the next set of budding international babies.

The UK transfer window opened on Tuesday the 1st January 2013 and closed at 11.00pm this evening, Thursday the 31st January 2013. The permanent transfer of fledgling Ireland midfielders Robert Brady and David Meyler from Manchester United and Sunderland respectively to Championship side Hull City together with the move of defender Stephen Kelly from Fulham to Reading remain the most significant
. Goalkeeper Stephen Henderson returned to Ipswich Town on loan from West Ham United until the end of the season.

Countdown continues to upcoming Poland friendly...27/01/2013
With the friendly encounter with Poland now just ten days away we await the almost inevitable repercussions of midweek and weekend club commitments for our squad members. Doubts currently surround Seamus Coleman and Stephen Ward, while a question mark still lingers over the fitness of Shane Long. While our visitors Poland are likely to have their own availablilty concerns, their initial Group 'H' WC2014 qualifying results suggest a quite challenging night in the Aviva. A comfortable home victory over Moldova, a one all draw at home to England and a two all draw away to current Group leaders Montenegro indicate a level of consistency and confidence.

Noel King announces squad for Holland encounter...25/01/2013
Ireland U21 Head Coach Noel King has today announced his twenty one man squad for the home friendly contest against Holland, set for Tallaght Stadium at 1.00pm on the afternoon of Wednesday the 6th February 2013. With injury having ruled out Sunderland defender John Egan, the absence of Aston Villa striker Graham Burke is perhaps the only surprise. The early afternoon kick-off should enable the South Dublin community and supporters taking in the senior friendly against Poland later that evening, to make an earlier start and catch up with our talented group of U21 players.

RISSC (London) is delighted to extend warmest football and twenty first birthday congratulations to former St Kevin's Boys midfielder Jeff Hendrick who joins fellow midfielder, twenty first birthday boy and former St Kevin's colleague Robbie Brady in the senior Ireland squad for the upcoming friendly international against Poland.

Opportunity knocks for fledgling quintet...22/01/2013
The inclusion of new faces, Jeff Hendrick, Richard Keogh, Anthony Pilkington and Conor Sammon together with uncapped goalkeeper Stephen Henderson, who has been in a previous squad, is welcome and offers hope that the necessary evolution, highlighted by the lethargy evident for some considerable time, is about to gather pace. The absence of Premiership regulars Joey O'Brien and Alex Pearce will however cause some raised eyebrows, although injury withdrawals may yet afford opportunity to both. Those initial absences raise nagging doubts surrounding the value of 'friendly' internationals, much as the Oman match did last year, although of course Robbie Brady did emerge and has maintained involvement since.

Senior squad confirmed by FAI this afternoon...21/01/2013
Following the death of his sister last night, manager Giovanni Trapattoni did not travel to Dublin today and his twenty six man squad for the upcoming friendly against Poland was announced by the FAI this afternoon. Derby County trio Richard Keogh, Jeff Hendrick and rather surprisingly Conor Sammon have been included for the first time, as has Anthony Pilkington of Norwich City. Twenty one year old Greg Cunningham also returns following a lengthy absence. Missing from the squad are Robbie Keane, which was expected, but the absence of Stephen Kelly was not. Also overlooked have been two Premiership regulars, Joey O'Brien and Alex Pearce, who both performed with reasonable competence ln last tear's Oman friendly. Richard Dunne has been named on the standby list as he seeks to regain fitness following his lengthy injury absence.

Ireland begin their preparations with a home friendly contest against Holland, scheduled for Tallaght Stadium at 1.00pm on the afternoon of Wednesday the 6th February 2013. The early afternoon kick-off should enable supporters taking in the senior friendly against Poland later that evening, to perhaps make an earlier start and catch up with our talented group of U21 players.

Countdown to squad announcement for Poland match...13/01/2013
Manager Giovanni Trapattoni is set to announce his squad for the upcoming friendly against Poland at a press conference, provisionally scheduled for Monday the 21st January 2013. The composition of the squad may give little indication of the manager's thoughts in relation to the crucial World Cup qualifiers in March. With injury expected to rule out Richard Dunne, Sean St Ledger and Marc Wilson, coupled with the voluntary absence of Darron Gibson and Keith Fahey, options are likely to be much reduced. The seasonal inactivity of Robbie Keane, Aiden McGeady and Darren O'Dea must also impact on the managerial mind. It also appears that Shane Long has an ongoing injury problem which is being carefully managed by his club, making him a serious doubt. It will be interesting to see if the speculation surrounding Norwich City duo Mark Bunn and Anthony Pilkington is with foundation and if so, whether the necessary administration has been readily addressed by the Association.

FA Cup third round weekend - lost excitement?...05/01/2013
The third round of the English FA Cup appears to have lost a great deal of the drama and excitement which once embodied the contests, when the top two divisions enter the fray. Third round weekend was here again and yes indeed, despite some apparently very appealing contests there appeared to be little electricity in the air. The tendency of Premiership clubs to dilute their selections at this early stage is certainly a factor and indeed the challenge of selling the product seems beyond the current band of TV gurus and presenters. Wearing the Irish international review hat, prompted one to cast an eye in the direction of some interesting contests. Aston Villa (Clark, Ireland), came from behind to defeat Mick McCarthy's Ipswich Town by two goals to one. Hull City (McShane) scored a late equaliser to survive at home to Leyton Orient, for whom David Mooney found the net and Peterborough United (Ferdinand) were defeated three nil at home by Chris Hughton's Norwich City. Shane Long scored for West Bromwich Albion, who drew one all at QPR, while U21 midfielder Eunan O'Kane found the net for AFC Bournemouth who earned a one all draw at Wigan Athletic.
