disappointment as Derry City exit Europe Stage...25/07/2013
City, the sole suviving Airtricity League side in this season's UEFA competitions,
found the challenge presented by Trabzonspor AS of Turkey in the second round
second leg of the Europa League too much as they went down to a three nil
defeat in the Brandywell this evening. The seven two aggregate defeat for
the 'Candystripes' sees Ireland unrepresented in at least a second European
contest for the first time in several years.
candidates catch the eye in pre-season action...24/07/2013
U21 Head Coach, Noel King is likely to be encouraged by
the pre-season performances of a number of U21 candidates for the upcoming
UEFA Championship qualifier in the Faroe Islands on Wednesday 14 August 2013.
Aston Villa trio Graham Burke, Samir Carruthers
and Jack Grealish were in action at Luton on Tuesday evening
while QPR duo Michael Harriman and Frankie Sutherland
both caught the eye against Udinese.
League disappointment for Sligo Rovers...23/07/2013
Sligo Rovers went down to a two nil defeat against Molde
FK in the second-leg of their second qualifying round UEFA
Champions League tie in Norway This afternoon, to
exit the competition on a three nil aggregate. The concession of a goal after
just five minutes put them under pressure and whilst they had several goalscoring
opportunities they failed to convert any of them. The second goal ten minutes
from time settled matters and they must now prepare for a crucial Airtricity
Premier Division clash with Shamrock Rovers in the Showgrounds on Saturday
- squad announcement this afternoon ...19/07/2013
Manager Giovanni Trapattoni this afternoon announced a provisional
twenty six man Republic of Ireland squad for the friendly international with
Wales on Wednesday 14 August 2013.
Our thoughts on the likely squad appear to have been vindicated with Anthony
Pilkington included, his one last chance to show?, Stephen
Quinn, impressive in training and secure during his cameo appearance
in June, has also received an initial invitation, while Under 21 players Robbie
Brady and Jeff Hendrick are included, but it remains
to be seen whether one or both may be permitted to join Noel King's squad
for the opening European Championship qualifier in the Faroe Islands on the
Club Meeting - Special Anniversary Feature
upcoming meeting on Friday 26 July 2013 falls on the fifteenth anniversary
of our U18/19 side, managed by Brian Kerr and including Richard Dunne and
Robbie Keane, defeating
Germany at the European Championship Final in Cyprus. The victory capped a
memorable summer for Ireland and Kerr, as just two months earlier, our U16/17
side, with John O'Shea and Andy Reid in their ranks, lifted their European
Championship with victory over Italy in the final played in Scotland. We have,
courtesy of RTE, footage of both successes and subject to no late complications,
we hope to have Liam George, who converted the winning penalty in the shoot-out
against Germany, with us on the night.

night in the Airtricity League Premier Division...05/07/2013
In addition to the televised contest, there were three other fixtures played
in the Airtricity League Premier Division this evening. The

ended in victory for the visitors with an added time winner from substitute
Tiernan Mulvenna. Shamrock Rovers dominated
affairs against hosts Bray Wanderers in
the Carlisle Grounds but could not find the net and the contest ended scoreless.
Dalymount Park was the scene of more disappointment for hosts Bohemian
who went down to the only goal from visitors Limerick.
in football action at World University Games...05/07/2013
The first series of matches at the World University Games took place in Russia
today. The Ireland women's side, managed by Sue Ronan, played
out a scoreless draw with defending champions China in searing
heat this morning. This evening the men defeated host nation Russia
by two goals to one with Corey Davidson and Darren
Forsyth the goalscorers. The women's team will take on Canada
on Sunday while the men will face China
on Monday in their respective second Group contests.
clubs embark on European adventure...04/07/2013
The qualifying round of the Europa League swung into action with the first
leg ties played this evening. Current Airtricity League leaders St
Patrick's Athletic were first into action when they faced VMFD
Zalgiris of Lithuania in Vilnius. The Inchicore side twice came from

to earn a two all draw and will be confident of progressing to the next round,
in the second leg at Richmond Park next week. Also in action tonight were
