Park disappointment for Trapattoni's Ireland...28/03/2009
The europhia of a Richard Dunne goal in the opening
seconds of this evening's World Cup qualifier against Bulgaria
in Croke Park was swiftly dulled in a very disappointing display. The visitors
dominated much of the play without really threatening to score until the seventy
third minute when Kevin Kilbane deflected the ball past a helpless
Shay Given. Ireland sought to restore the lead in the latter
stages and good opportunities were wasted by Aiden McGeady,
Robbie Keane and a weary Kevin Doyle, who
otherwise gave another selfless, sterling performance.
success for U21s in Spanish test...27/03/2009
A capacity crowd in the RSC, Waterford, saw a resolute Ireland Under
21 side defeat Spain by two goals to one tonight.
Founded on the defensive rock of skipper Eddie Nolan, who was
named 'Man of the Match' and the midfield prompting of Owen Garvan,
victory was well merited. Ireland took a 37th minute lead through Jay
O'Shea, who bundled home a Garvan free kick. On 58 minutes, Ireland
scored an exquisite second goal, created by an O'Shea pass and a surging Cillian
Sheridan run down the left. His low cross was beautifully dummied
by Garvan and crashed to the net by Alan Judge.

defeat all but ends RISSC title dreams...08/03/2009
A weakened RISSC football team this afternoon
suffered a crushing six nil home defeat to APFSCIL First Division league leaders
Exeter City SC. The 'Grecians' have proven something of a nemesis
this season, having knocked the Club out of the Cup and also inflicted a heavy
away league defeat. As the season enters the closing stages, realistic hopes
of lifting the League Championship continue to fade and while not yet out of
contention, reality suggests the cause may now be a lost one.
