SATURDAY 28 OCTOBER 2017
THE CLADDAGH RING - HENDON

We are delighted to announce that following publication of his eagerly awaited autobiography "Any Given Saturday", Ireland goalkeeping legend Shay Given is set to be the guest of the Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporters Club (London) on the morning of Saturday 28th October 2017.

Shay will join us for a chat and will be happy to lend his personal touch by signing copies of his book which will be available on the morning. The event will take place at "The Claddagh Ring", 10 Church Road, Hendon NW4 4EA between 10am and noon. Shay does have TV commitments in Manchester later in the day and must therefore make a sharp departure at noon.

We will be delighted to welcome all and sundry and being a Saturday morning of course children, for whom Shay may be a personal footballing hero, will be especially welcome. An opportunity perhaps to purchase that christmas present for someone special.

Shay, born in Lifford, Donegal in April 1976 has enjoyed a long and distinguished career which commenced as a fifteen year old trainee at Glasgow Celtic in 1991. Shay was signed by Kenny Dalglish for Blackburn Rovers in 1994 as an eighteen year old but only made two appearances for the club. He did however enjoy two very successful loan periods with Swindon Town and Sunderland with both clubs earning promotion from their respective divisions.

In 1997, Shay joined Newcastle United where he went on to make 354 first team appearances during a twelve year period. A £6 million move to Manchester City took place in 2009 where he made 50 first team appearances before his transfer to Aston Villa in 2011. Shay made 37 appearances for Villa and also had a 16 match loan period at Middlesbrough before joining Stoke City in 2015. Shay made 8 appearances for Stoke before his retirement in June 2017.

Capped 5 times at Under 21 level for Ireland, Shay went on to represent his country at senior level on 134 occasions following his debut against Russia in March 1996 when he was still just nineteen years old.

Following his retirement from the active football stage in June of this year, Shay has now embarked on a media career which sees him popping up on our screens as an analyst on a regular basis.

The venue will open at 9.00am and Finbar and his team at the Claddagh Ring will be delighted to cater for those in need of breakfast sustinence.

The house will also be showing the Premier League meeting of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur which kicks off in Old Trafford at 12.30pm.

With Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Watford, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers all having home league matches kicking off at 3pm, an opportunity for fans of those clubs and their various visitors to have a bright and breezy start to the day?.

We are conscious that personal circumstances may prevent members, who might normally wish to attend, from joining us and should this be the case but you would like to acquire a signed copy of Shay's Book, which is retailing at £20, please e-mail our Treasurer Andre at treasurer@rissc.org and he will co-ordinate purchase arrangements for you.
