We in the Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporters Club (London)hosted our Ninth Annual 2014 Charity Quiz Night in the Sala Room at the Crown Moran Hotel on the evening of Friday the 31st January 2014.

We were delighted to welcome Irish football legend, John Giles, Patron of our nominated charity ‘The John Giles Foundation’ as our guest and John provided a spellbound audience with an illuminating array of thoughts, both anecdotal and serious, from his illustious career in football and subsequent foray into the sports media realm.

Casting his very watchful eye over proceedings was quizmaster Michael Mulvaney who, assisted by Dave Lavan, oversaw an event, where forty teams engaged in a compelling battle of knowledge, wisdom and wit, to provide an evening packed with drama and excitement.

An array of furrowed brows coupled with occasional open mouthed incredulity emitted from the packed room of committed contestants, until at last the challenge was met, the deed was done, the battle was over, but who had won?

Rumour has it that the offices of Paddy P and Victor C were bombarded throughout the day and they may well have taken a hit as the hot joint favourites again emerged at the head of the final rankings.

The visiting Wicklow trio of Colm Finnegan, Stephen McNulty and Billy O’Rourke performed with their usual aplomb, but on this occasion they were just outdone by local residents Cathal Chu, Dave King and Chris McCormack.

Our esteemed guest John Giles presented the winners and runners-up with their trophies, which were kindly sponsored by CARA Stationery.

€3000 raised for The John Giles Foundation

We are delighted to have been able to present our nominated charity for this year – The John Giles Foundation, with a cheque for €3,000 from the proceeds of the evening and other associated events.

We extend our grateful thanks to our sponsors, Gerry Keany of Cara Stationery and Tommy Moran of the Crown Moran Hotel, together with FAI Regional Manager and Supporters Clubs Co-ordinator Gerry Reardon for his contribution to the success of the event.

Also an enormous thank you to Cathal and Sean O’Halloran for their magnificent effort in generating ticket sales for our dual raffles.
