Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporters Club (London) hosted our 15th Annual Charity Quiz Event at the Claddagh Ring in Hendon on the evening of Friday the 31st January 2020, and we were delighted to welcome the recently retired Ireland international and now Ireland U18 Head Coach Andy Reid as our special guest.
Andy was capped 29 times by Ireland at senior level, while his illustrious period at underage level was highlighted by his contribution to our U16 European Championship success in 1998. Andy talked us through his playing and current fledgling coaching career and provided an attentive gathering with his thoughts on the future progression of Irish football.
Having pre-empted the FAI with a changing of the old guard (voluntary and without blemish) we had new faces at the Club helm and, invigorated by our special guest, Martin and Sean brought their own style to the event as they steered the Charity Quiz Ship to another emphatic success. They were superbly assisted by Eileen, Emma, and Helen, the administration team.
Roisin and Sean treaded the boards with raffle tickets in hand and stalwart Club members Catherine Booth and Tommy Feely (both pictured below) were the winners of our principal raffle prizes. The evening was further garnished with the sound system arranged by DJ Shox.
In a competitive and interesting tussle, the duo of Dave Lavan and Michael Mulvaney (below)held off the strong challenge provided by Sandie Kilkenny and Kelly Murphy (below) to garner the mantle of RISSC (London) Charity Quiz Champions 2020. The victors and runners-up were presented with their trophies by our wonderful guest Andy Reid.
Our Event, with the contributions of our generous Sponsors, our various raffles, and significant member donations provided by Gerry McNamee and Paul Boyle together with the magnificent contribution made by our host Finbar, generated €4,000 which will be donated to our nominated charity – The Alzheimer Society of Ireland.
