The competition, for teams of three, attracted entries from twenty two different counties and regions including two from the Club’s very successful football team. We were also pleased to welcome three teams from the London Northern Ireland Supporters Club (LNISC) and a team from Wicklow. They travelled over to London especially for the event. The quiz was formulated on a table basis with teams being required to complete a series of twenty questions within a specified timescale. The first round set the tone for a challenging interrogation of sporting knowledge and eleven teams survived to enter round two.

The second round participants were the Cathal Chu Trio, Connacht, Donegal, Sligo, South Leinster, Tipperary, Tyrone and our four visiting guest teams. The pressure was increased in the second phase by a reduction in the time available for completion. Amid mounting excitement the teams compiled their answers and waited with some degree of trepidation the announcement of the finalists. The successful six, who would contest the final series of questions, were LNISC1, LNISC2, Sligo, Tipperary, Tyrone and Wicklow.

A tense and thrilling finale saw contestants deliberating with intensity in their team clusters. The examination of the ultimate submissions saw two teams move clear and in a neck and neck battle LNISC1 composed of Antrim’s Owen Shepherd and Bill McComish together with Derryman Paul Wright, triumphed by one point over the Michael Mulvaney inspired Sligo team.

The Club extends its appreciation of all who attended and participated in the event and will, at the request of many of the attendees, seek to repeat the event in the not too distant future.
