We, the Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporters Club (London) hosted our Tenth Annual 2015 Charity Quiz Night in the Bentley Room at the Crown Moran Hotel on the evening of Friday the 23rd January. The club was delighted to have been able to present our nominated Charity for this club year ‘Down Syndrome Ireland‘ with a cheque for €4,000 from the proceeds of the evening and other associated events.

We were honoured to welcome the recently retired, one hundred and ten times capped Ireland international footballer and now respected media analyst, Kevin Kilbane, as our special guest and Kevin addressed a whole range of subjects relating to both his playing career and his more recent foray into the sports media realm.

It was also a pleasure to welcome Pat Clarke, the Chief Executive Officer of Down Syndrome Ireland together with FAI representatives Pat Duffy and Gerry Reardon. We were also joined on the evening by distinguished author Andy Merriman who assisted Kevin with the production of his autobiography ‘Killa’.

Dictating the pace of proceedings with his usual watchful eye was quizmaster Michael Mulvaney who, together with Sandie, Karen, Kelly and Dave, oversaw an event, where some thirty teams engaged in a compelling battle of knowledge, wisdom and wit, to provide an evening packed with excitement. The drama was extended when a play-off was required to decide our victors.

The extra-time battle ebbed and flowed and it looked like a penalty shoot-out was on the cards until the very final question of the evening broked a winner.

The victors were Mark McCoy, Peter McGarry and one of our founding members Pat Redmond, but my, what a contest our runners-up, the Booth trio of Catherine, Kate and Turlough provided.

Thanks to our sponsors and rundraisers

Our very special guest Kevin Kilbane presented the winners and runners-up with their trophies, which were kindly sponsored by CARA Stationery.

We extend our grateful thanks to our sponsors, Gerry Keany of Cara Stationery and Tommy Moran of the Crown Moran Hotel for their contribution to the successful evening.

Thanks also to Roisin Mackey and Sean O’Halloran for their magnificent effort in generating ticket sales for our dual raffles.
