RISSC London’s recent quiz night was huge success; thanks to our sponsors and club members in attendance on the night we raised an incredible £4000 for Skylarks.
Over 15 teams took part in the hotly contested quiz, where questions on all manner of general knowledge tested the nous of participants. The photo round was especially fun, with the top scoring team of ‘Bonnie & Clyde’ Aka (Pat & Claudia Redmond with Sylvester Melady) getting 45 out of 50 answers correct. Despite such a valiant effort in this part of the quiz, thief scoring in the other 2 rounds could only secure them 3rd place with a score of 67!
At the end of the main competition we ended up with 2 teams on level scores, 68 out of a possible 80, a tie break was required to separate both teams to see who would win the coveted title of ‘Tommy Feely RISSC London Quiz Champion. The battle was on between ‘Agatha Quiz Team’ and ‘David Clifford Walks on Water’.
Incredibly, the first tie break question “closest answer” still could not separate the teams. Both teams knew their stuff! ‘Another’ question was hastily (some would say desperately) sought and answered, which saw Adrian McVann, Paul Ryan and Patrick Keenan of ‘Agatha Quiz Team’ secure narrow victory. Previous winners, Mark McCoy, Peter Carberry and Peter McGarry finished a gallant 2nd place, worthy challengers who will be sure to fight another day.
Pictured here are the winning team receiving their 2023 Tommy Feely Quiz Trophies from Sona Sharma of Skylarks.
We wish to thank Sona for providing some insight into the Skylarks charity; this charity really makes a difference to families and children facing challenges with autism and it was heartening to hear from one of our own, ‘Roisin Kennedy Mackey’ who gave us a first hand personal account of how Skylarks has continued to help her family. For more information on Skylarks check out http://www.skylarks.
We also held a raffle on the evening which was really well supported, the winning ticket won the top prize of a framed signed Ireland shirt which was won by Patrick Walsh.
Patrick has generously donated the shirt back to the charity and we will be holding an on-line event to do another a draw to win this great prize and donate the proceeds to the Skylarks. We will send more information on this shortly.
We wish to thank all members who made donations and who attended to support the quiz night. We also wish to thank our generous hosts, Finbar, Ger and staff at the Claddagh Ring and our event sponsors who made generation donations and put up raffle prizes for the night. Also thanks to the RISSC London committee and Eileen O’Carroll for help on marking duties on the evening.
Thanks again to all members who attended, we hope you enjoyed the night and look forward to seeing you at future club events.
