Tony Ward was regarded as one of the world’s finest Rugby Union Fly-Half’s during the 1970s and 1980s. Capped nineteen times by Ireland, the Dubliner was also a member of the ‘Lions’ squad which toured South Africa in 1980 where he set a then ‘Lions Test’ record scoring eighteen points against the ‘Springboks’. Tony was also a star of the fabled Munster side which in October 1978 defeated New Zealand by twelve points to nil in Thomond Park with Tony scoring two drop goals and a conversion. Tony was also the first ever recipient of a European Rugby Player of the Year award for his performances in the 1979 Five Nations Championship.
 
Tony Ward was also an accomplished soccer player with Shamrock Rovers from 1973 -1975 and later on played for the Limerick side which won the FAI Cup in 1982. 
 
Following his sporting retirement, Tony entered the world of Journalism and is to this day a much respected Rugby correspondent with the Irish Independent. He also lends his services to St Gerard’s School in Bray as coach to their Senior Rugby team.

by bus: from station, cross the road by the underpass, turn right onto Watford Way, go to the second of the 2 bus stops (Stop F), take either Route 143 or 326, travel 2 stops, alight at Middlesex University (Stop Q), turn right, The Claddagh Ring is on the left.

 

From Hendon Station:  

on foot: turn left out of station up the hill along Station Road to junction with Watford Way, cross Watford Way continue ahead along The Burroughs, walk past Hendon Town Hall and Middlesex University, The Claddagh Ring is on the left. (approx 1600 yards from station, 15/20 mins walk)

by bus: from station, turn right go to bus stop on Station Road (Stop HD), take Route 183, travel 4 stops, alight at Middlesex University (Stop Q), turn right, The Claddagh Ring is on the left.

For those driving, there is limited parking spaces available outside the parade of shops opposite The Claddagh Ring in Church Road.
