Irish in Checkatrade Trophy action…04-09-2018

There was Irish involvement in the second round of the Checkatrade Trophy this evening. The competition is restricted to English Football League clubs together with U21 sides from the majority of the Premier League clubs. Southampton U21, who secured a two nil victory at Colchester United, included Michael Obafemi who scored, Thomas O’Connor the captain, Aaron O’Driscoll and Will Smallbone in their starting eleven with Jonathan Afolabi and Will Ferry on the substitute bench. Deadline day loan signing Eunan O’Kane made his Luton Town debut in the ‘Hatters’ two one victory over Brighton & Hove Albion U21 for whom Aaron Connolly and Daniel Mandroiu started while Warren O’Hora was on the substitute bench. 

Wrist injury rules out James McClean…04/09/2018

James McClean has sustained a wrist injury which requires surgery and is ruled out of the upcoming fixtures against Wales and Poland.

Shane Duffy (groin) and David Meyler (knee) did not train yesterday but were involved this morning while the remainder of the squad, including late arrivals Sean McDermott and Jonathan Walters, took a full part in training. 

U19 Squad named for friendly contests…03/09/2018

Head Coach Tom Mohan has named a twenty two player squad for two friendly internationals against Wales in preparation for the qualifying stage of the 2019 European Championships. City Calling Stadium in Longford will host the first contest on Sunday the 9th September and Eamonn Deacy Park in Galway will host the second contest on Tuesday the 11th September.

Head Coach Noel King has named an eighteen man squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifies against Kosova in Mitrovica on Friday the 7th September and Germany in Tallaght Stadium at 6pm on Tuesday the 11th September 2018. Injury rules out Conor Dimaio, Shaun Donnellan and Olamide Shodipo while Jake Doyle-Hayes and Conor Ronan are surprising omissions.

The weekend speculation and debate surrounding Harry Arter is confirmed with the Cardiff City loanee excluded from the revised squad.
