Dundalk crash out of Europa League…02/08/2018

Following their scoreless draw in the home first leg, Dundalk suffered a crushing four nil defeat by AEK Larnaca of Cyprus in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League second round tie to exit the competition on Thursday afternoon in Larnaca. Also in second round action were Burnley who go through to the third round following victory over Aberdeen. The contest ended level in regular time at one goal each with the hosts scoring twice in extra-time to set up a meeting with Basaksehir of Turkey. Stephen Ward started for the ‘Clarets’ with Jeff Hendrick joining the fray for the second period of extra-time while Kevin Long was an unused substitute. Tommie Hoban started for the visiting ‘Dons’ with Chris Forrester introduced at the same time as Hendrick. Stephen Gleeson was an unused substitute.

Cork City to face Rosenborg in Europa League

Cork City will face Rosenberg of Norway in the third qualifying round of the Europa League with the first leg set for Turner’s Cross at 7.45pm on Thursday the 9th August and the second leg seven days later in Trondheim.

Dundalk in Europa League second round action…02/08/2018

The winners will meet the losers of the Champions League tie between Ajax (Holland) and Sturm Graz (Austria) with the Dutch side holding a two nil advantage from the home first leg.

Also in second round second leg action will be Burnley (Jeff Hendrick, Kevin Long, Jon Walters, Stephen Ward) and Aberdeen (Tommie Hoban, Stephen Gleeson, Chris Forrester) who played out a one all first leg draw at Pittodrie last week.

Liam Miller Tribute Match set for Pairc Ui Chaoimh

The Liam Miller Tribute Match between an Ireland/Celtic XI and a Manchester United XI will take place at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, Cork on Tuesday the 25th September 2018. Airtricity League action on Friday evening…27/07/2018

There were four Airtricity League Premier Division contests completed this Friday evening with EIR Sport bringing live coverage of the Tallaght Stadium meeting of Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers which ended in a two nil victory for the hosts.

The Carlisle Grounds witnessed beleaguered Bray Wanderers go down to a three one defeat by visitors Cork City who returned to the summit, two points ahead of Dundalk, but the ‘Lilywhites’ do have two matches in hand.

Derry City overcame St Patrick’s Athletic by two goals to one in the Brandywell while Limerick also secured a two one victory over visitors Waterford in the Markets Field.

Dundalk played out a scoreless draw in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League second round tie against AEK Larnaca of Cyprus in Oriel Park on Thursday evening with the second leg scheduled for the following Thursday at 4.30pm in Larnaca. The winners will meet the losers of the Champions League tie between Ajax (Holland) and Sturm Graz (Austria) with the Dutch side holding a two nil advantage from the home first leg.

Also in second round first leg action on Thursday evening were Scottish and English representatives Aberdeen and Burnley who played out a one all draw at Pittodrie. The hosts included Tommie Hoban in their starting eleven while Stephen Gleeson was a second half substitute. Fellow midfielder Chris Forrester was an unused substitute for the ‘Dons’. The visiting ‘Clarets’ had Jeff Hendrick and Stephen Ward in their starting eleven while Kevin Long and Jonathan Walters were unused substitutes.
