Head Coach Dave Connell has named a twenty player squad for a Triangular Invitation Tournament taking place at Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate, York over the coming week. Ireland opened the competition with a one all draw against Northern Ireland on Saturday evening but lost the penalty shoot-out to determine the winners. They will next face hosts England at 12.30pm in the same venue on Wednesday afternoon.

With four of the clubs in European action this week, there was just one Airtricity League Premier Division contest played this Friday evening with Bohemian going down to a surprise three nil defeat at home to Sligo Rovers in Dalymount Park with the visitors leapfroging them on the table.
Irish Clubs commence European campaigns
Dundalk travelled to meet Levadia Tallinn of Estonia in the first leg of the first qualifying round of the 2019 UEFA Europa League on Thursday afternoon and secured an excellent one nil victory courtesy of a Dylan Connolly goal eight mionutes into the second half. Meanwhile Shamrock Rovers went down to a one nil defeat at home to AIK of Sweden in Tallaght Stadium while Derry City suffered a two nil home defeat by Dinamo Minsk from Belarus in the Brandywell in their first legs.
Cork City LOSE TO Legia Warsaw in Champions League
Airtricity League Champions Cork City commenced their UEFA Champions League campaign when they went down to a one nil defeat by Legia Warsaw of Poland in the first leg of the first qualifying round in Turner’s Cross on Tuesday evening. The winning goal came eleven minutes from time and makes the second leg in Warsaw next week a huge challenge.

The Airtricity League Premier Division continued on Friday evening with Dundalk extending their lead with a three one victory over St Patrick’s Athletic in Richmond Park while second place Cork City were held to a scoreless draw by Shamrock Rovers at Turner’s Cross. Third place Waterford were held to a one all draw by visitors Bohemian in the Regional Sports Centre while Derry City overcame Limerick by two goals to one in the Brandywell.
FAI Cup first round draw
The draw for the first round of the 2018 Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup was made this Wednesday afternoon when the twenty league clubs were joined by the twelve non-league qualifiers.
Holders Cork City have been drawn away to non-league Home Farm while Dundalk will entertain Cobh Ramblers of the First Division. Non-league Skerries Town have been drawn at home to high flying Waterford while fellow non-leagues sides Blarney United, Cockhill Celtic and Inchicore Athletic have also been drawn at home to Premier Division sides Derry City, Limerick and St Patrick’s Athletic respectively. The ties are scheduled for the week ending Sunday the 12th August.

The Airtricity League Premier Division resumed on Friday evening with Cork City being superceded at the summit by hosts Dundalk who secured an added time goal to emerge victorious by two goals to one in front of the RTE 2 cameras at Oriel Park. Bohemian and St Patrick’s Athletic met in Dalymount Park with the hosts prevailing by one goal to nil while Shamrock Rovers secured a two nil victory over visitors Derry City in Tallaght Stadium. The relegation contest between the bottom pair went the way of Limerick who defeated Bray Wanderers by two goals to one in the Markets Field.
