The 2018 Premier League concluded on Sunday afternoon with the final champions League and relegation spot defined. Liverpool crushed visitors Brighton & Hove Albion (Shane Duffy) to secure the champions league spot while a one nil defeat for Southampton (Shane Long) at home to Manchester City did not matter as Swansea City went down to a two one defeat at home to already relegated Stoke City to join them in the Championship next season. Burnley (Stephen Ward, Kevin Long, Jeff Hendrick) went down to a two one defeat at home to AFC Bournemouth while West Ham United (Declan Rice) defeated Everton (Seamus Coleman) by three goals to one.

Current Airtricity League Premier Division leaders Cork City made the lengthy journey to face fourth place Derry City in the Brandywell on Friday evening and secured a point with a scoreless draw. Second place Dundalk narrowed the gap to one point with a two one victory over Sligo Rovers in Oriel Park. Third place Waterford played out a one all draw with hosts Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght Stadium with the Carlisle Grounds meeting of Bray Wanderers and Bohemian going the way of the visitors by three goals to one. Martin O’Neill announces 40 man provisional squad

Manager Martin O’Neill has announced an extended forty man Republic of Ireland squad for the upcoming friendly contests against Glasgow Celtic, France and the USA. With Cyrus Christie, Richard Keogh, Alex Pearce, Conor Hourihane, Scott Hogan, Glenn Whelan and Darren Randolph attached to clubs involved in the Championship play-offs, it was expected that some new names would appear in the preliminary squad and so it is with goalkeepers Ian Lawlor and Conor O’Malley together with U21 netminder Kieran O’Hara joined by midfielder Shaun Williams and strikers Graham Burke and Callum Robinson. The official paperwork relating to Robinson is not yet completed so he can only be available for the Scott Brown Testimonial against Glasgow Celtic.

John O’Shea yesterday confirmed his retirement from international football and he will skipper the side in his final appearance against the USA in the Aviva Stadium on Saturday the 2nd June.
