Senior Women defeat Slovakia in World Cup qualifier

Rep. of Ireland Senior Women, guided by Head Coach Colin Bell, defeated Slovakia by two goals to one in their first home contest of the 2019 World Cup qualifying campaign early this Friday afternoon in Tallaght Stadium. Ireland, without several regular starters, took the lead on sixty nine minutes through Leanne Kiernan but were jolted four minutes later when goalkeeper Marie Hourihan conceded an own goal. With just three minutes remaining, substitute Amber Barrett, introduced nine minutes earlier, grabbed the crucial winner. We have now collected ten points from our opening four fixtures, three of them away from home. Next up, on Tuesday evening next at 7.30pm in Tallaght Stadium, will be group favourites Holland.
