The Sunday afternoon and evening fixtures in the Airtricity League Premier Division saw Shamrock Rovers defeat Finn Harps by two goals to nil in Ballybofey while St Patrick’s Athletic and Dundalk played out a one all draw in Richmond Park.
With Cork City already consigned to relegation, the battle to avoid involvement in the relegation play-off is now the primary focus at the foot of the Airtricity League Premier Division. The long time candidates to fill that role, Finn Harps, have made valiant strides in recent weeks to avoid that scenario and last Wednesday evening in Finn Park took another step in the right direction with a three two victory over St Patrick’s Athletic.
The finale to the league season is building to quite a climax with only the top two, Shamrock Rovers and Bohemian together with already relegated Cork City already assured of their final position while three of the remaining seven could find themselves in the relegation play-off position.
St Patrick’s Athletic removed any slight concerns that they might find themselves in the play-off position when they held champions Shamrock Rovers to a scoreless draw in Tallaght Stadium on Wednesday evening.
