Airtricity League Weekend Review…16/08/2020

Premier Division
Match series eight was completed on Sunday afternoon with current leaders Shamrock Rovers dropping their first points of the season when they were held to a scoreless draw by local rivals St Patrick’s Athletic in Richmond Park. The ‘Hoops’ monopolised possession throughout but were unable to breakthrough against a resolute defence, whose task was made even more difficult when they were reduced to ten men just a couple of minutes into the second half.

The action continued at 2pm on Saturday afternoon with Finn Harps going down to a one nil home defeat by visitors Bohemian while Shelbourne scored a late equaliser to secure a point from a one all draw with visitors Derry City in Tolka Park at 5pm.

Match series eight in the Airtricity League Premier Division kicked-off at 5.45pm on Friday afternoon when Dundalk took on Waterford in Oriel Park just three days after they clashed in the FAI Cup at the same venue. This afternoon’s contest proved a quite spikey affair with the visitors being the dominant side for some seventy eight minutes during which they secured a two goal lead. The dismissal of ‘Blues’ midfielder Ali Coote changed the dynamic and saw the hosts score twice in the later stages to secure a point.
Later in the day at 7.45pm. Cork City welcomed Sligo Rovers to Turner’s Cross where the hosts secured a three nil victory.
