Championship action on Saturday…28/04/2018

The Championship continued on Saturday afternoon with champions Wolves (Matt Doherty) playing out a goal less draw with Sheffield Wednesday at Molineaux. Cardiff City (Anthony Pilkington) secured a two nil victory at Hull City (David Meyler) while Aston Villa (Conor Hourihane, Scott Hogan, Glenn Whelan) were held to a one all draw by visitors Derby County (Richard Keogh, Alex Pearce). Preston North End (Greg Cunningham, Alan Browne. Sean Maguire) maintained their play-off hopes with a Browne goal securing victory at Sheffield United (Enda Stevens). Middlesbrough (Darren Randolph) also retained their play-off hopes with a two nil victory over Millwall (Shaun Williams, Aiden O’Brien) at the Riverside Stadium in the late kick-off.

Friday – Airtricity League Premier Division…27/04/2018

The Airtricity League Premier Division continued on Friday evening with RTE 2 bringing live coverage of the top of the table meeting of Cork City and Dundalk from Turner’s Cross which saw the hosts score the only goal to supercede their opponents at the summit. Third place Waterford were held to a one all draw by Sligo Rovers in the RSC while the Brandywell hosted a scoreless draw between Derry City and Shamrock Rovers. Richmond Park witnessed a two all draw between St Patrick’s Athletic and Bohemian while the bottom two, Bray Wanderers and Limerick, went head to head in the Carlisle Grounds with the visiting ‘Blues’ scoring the only goal.

Championship action on Friday evening…27/04/2018

Fulham, battling with Cardiff City and Aston Villa for the second automatic promotion place in the Championship, welcomed already relegated Sunderland to Craven Cottage on Friday evening and maintained their promotion challenge with a hard fought and a little fortunate two one victory . Transfer window signing Cyrus Christie continued his substitute role for the ‘Cottagers’ while the visiting duo of John O’Shea and Marc Wilson may have their thoughts focussed on pastures new.

League One action on Tuesday evening…24/04/2018

Blackburn Rovers duo Daragh Lenihan and Derrick Williams, called up to the Ireland squad for last month’s friendly international against Turkey, were in celebratory mood this evening as their one nil League One victory at Doncaster Rovers secured their immediate return to the Championship. At the other end of the League One table, a goal from Ireland U21 defender Ryan Delaney helped secure a point for Rochdale against Plymouth Argyle to move them out of the relegation zone.

The Championship on Tuesday evening…24/04/2018

Derby County, who had lost their last three matches to drop out of the top six Championship promotion places, returned to the play-off race when they came from benind to defeat second place Cardiff City by three goals to one at Pride Park on Tuesday evening. ‘Rams’ captain Richard Keogh retained his starting role while Alex Pearce was a very late substitiute and Anthony Pilkington was a seventy fourth minute substitute for the visiting ‘Bluebirds’.
