Friday night in the Airtricity League…26/06/2021


There were four Airtricity League Premier Division fixtures played on Friday evening. Current leaders St Patrick’s Athletic travelled South to take on ninth place Waterford in the RSC where they were held to a one all draw while second place Shamrock Rovers welcomed Drogheda United to Tallaght Stadium and they too were held to a one all draw. Dundalk defeated Derry City by two goals to one in Oriel Park where Chris Shields played his last game for the ‘Lilywhites’ before his impending departure to Linfield in the Irish League.  Finn Harps welcoming bottom side Longford Town to Finn Park where the sides played out a one all draw.

The remaining fixture between Sligo Rovers and in-form Bohemian took place in the Showgrounds on Saturday evening and saw the hosts secure a stunning four nil victory which sees them join St Patrick’s Athletic and Shamrock Rovers at the summit of the league table.

There were four Airtricity League First Division contests played on Friday evening with leaders Shelbourne  defeating struggling Cork City by two goals to one in Tolka Park. Treaty United went down to a one nil defeat by West Coast neighbours Galway United in the Markets Field  while UCD made the short journey to take on Cabinteely at Stradbrook where they prevailed by two goals to one. Athlone Town and visitors Bray Wanderers played out a scoreless draw while the bottom duo, Cobh Ramblers and Wexford faced each other in St Colman’s Park on Saturday evening where the hosts prevailed by three goals to two.
