There have been four withdrawals from the senior Ireland squad for the upcoming fixtures against Switzerland and Bulgaria. Goalkeeper Keiren Westwood, defender Matt Doherty, midfielder James McCarthy and forward Sean Maguire are out of the squad through injury and lack of fitness. Goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara, defender Cyrus Christie and forward James Collins will join the squad on Monday morning as replacements.
Stoke City defender Nathan Collins (calf) and Southampton striker Michael Obafemi (hamstring) have both withdrawn from the U21 squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Armenia and Sweden. They will be replaced by Kameron Ledwidge (Southampton) and Simon Power (Ross County on loan from Norwich City).
The last minute deadline day transfer of U21 defender Lee O’Connor from Manchester United to Glasgow Celtic on a four year deal came completely out of the blue with O’Connor missing out on the opening Ireland U21 training session on Monday.
