Current leaders Norwich City included young Andrew Omobamadele on their substitute bench for their two nil success over visitors Bristol City. Chris Hughton‘s Nottingham Forest failed to continue their upward movement when they suffered a two one defeat by visitors Middlesbrough at the City Ground. Cyrus Christie was again in their starting eleven.
The one remaining FA Cup third round contest saw Southampton defeat League One side Shrewsbury Town by two goals to nil in a hard fought contest at St Mary’s where Shane Long started for the hosts while Will Ferry was an unused substitute.
