Monday night in the Airtricity League Premier Division

The Airtricity League Premier Division continued on Monday evening with Bray Wanderers providing a huge shock with their first win of the season, a one nil defeat of Shamrock Rovers in the Carlisle Grounds. Meanwhile Derry City moved up to third place with a three one victory over visitors Bohemian in the Brandywell. Also in action were St Patrick’s Athletic who scored the only goal to defeat visitors Waterford in Richmond Park.

Ciaran Clark was an unused Newcastle United substitute when they came from behind to defeat Arsenal by two goals to one in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. James McClean completed another ninety minutes for relegation bound West Bromwich Albion who shocked Manchester United with a one nil victory at Old Trafford. Wolverhampton Wanderers, who will replace their fellow Midlanders in the top division following confirmation of their promotion from the Championship, had Matt Doherty in their side for their noon rendezvous with Midlands rivals Birmingham City at Molineaux and he contributed to the opening goal in a two nil victory. Irish womens’s centre back Louise Quinn scored the added time winner for Arsenal Ladies which secured a two one victory over Everton Ladies and sends them to the Women’s FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday the 5th May 2018.

The Championship continued on Saturday afternoon

Surprise packet Millwall, with Aiden O’Brien and Shaun Williams in their ranks, have played their way into the Championship play-off positions with an incredible run over the past three months and collected another point with a one all draw at Sheffield United who had Enda Stevens in their starting eleven for this afternoon’s early kick-off. Middlesbrough and Darren Randolph defeated visitors Bristol City and late substitute Callum O’Dowda by two goals to one while Ryan Manning and his QPR colleagues went down to a two one defeat by visitors Preston North End who had Greg Cunningham and Alan Browne in their starting eleven. Reading and Liam Kelly, who converted an early penalty, are just above the relegation zone and they were held to a two all draw by the seemingly doomed Sunderland who included Aiden McGeady and Marc Wilson in their starting eleven.
