Another weekend in the Airtricity League…27/09/2020

The Airtricity League Premier Division continued this weekend with
Bohemian welcoming Derry City to Dalymount Park at 7.45pm on Friday evening. The visiting ‘Candystripes’ scored inside two minutes and held that lead until the 90th minute when the hosts scored twice in rapid succession to claim victory.  

Waterford United scored the only goal to defeat visitors Sligo Rovers in the RSC at 5pm on Saturday afternoon while at 7.30pm, St Patrick’s Athletic defeated Shelbourne by two goals to nil in Richmond Park.

Basement sides Finn Harps and Cork City played out a one all draw in Finn Park at 5pm on Sunday afternoon. Later in the evening, Oriel Park hosted the clash of defending champions Dundalk and champions elect Shamrock Rovers which saw the visitors secure a comfortable four nil success.

There were four Airtricity League First Division fixtures played on Friday evening with the top two, Bray Wanderers and Drogheda United, locking horns in the Carlisle Grounds where the visitors emerged victorious with the only goal to supersede their hosts at the summit of the League table. Third place Longford Town made the short trip to Midlands rivals Athlone Town and secured a four nil success. Fourth place Cabinteely suffered a shock five one home defeat by basement side Wexford at Stradbrook. Galway United also came a cropper with a one nil defeat at home to Cobh Ramblers in Eamonn Deacy Park.

Tallaght Stadium hosted the South Dublin meeting of Shamrock Rovers II and UCD at 3pm on Saturday afternoon which saw the ‘Students’ secure a five two victory.
