Kevin Long and Nathan Collins were unused substitutes for Burnley who went down to a one nil Premier League defeat by visitors Liverpool this afternoon at Turf Moor where Caoimhin Kelleher was an unused substitute for the victors. Matt Doherty was in the Tottenham Hotspur side which went down to a two nil home defeat by visitors Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Championship meeting of Swansea City and Bristol City saw Ryan Manning  return to the starting eleven after suspension alongside Michael Obafemi and Fulham loanee Cyrus Christie for the hosts with goalkeeper Max O’Leary starting for the visitors. The ‘Robins’ took a first half lead but Obafemi equalised on 54 minutes and Christie put them in front on 79 minutes with a further goal coming in added time for a three one victory. An injury forced  the withdrawal of O’Leary after 63 minutes.

League One leaders Rotherham United included Chiedoze Ogbene in their starting eleven as they secured  a two nil victory at Sheffield Wednesday.  Joshua Kayode was an unused  substitute for the ‘Millers’ while Ciaran Brennan was unused on the ‘Owls’ substitute bench.

Glasgow Celtic included Liam Scales in their starting eleven and he opened the scoring on 22 minutes as his side ran out four nil Scottish Cup winners over Raith Rovers of the Championship while James McCarthy was an unused  substitute. 

Saturday
Shane Long and Will Smallbone were unused substitutes for Southampton who came from behind to secure a one all draw at Manchester United in the Premier League early on Saturday afternoon. Seamus Coleman scored after 10 minutes for  Everton who defeated Leeds United  by three goals to nil at Goodison Park. Watford went down to a two nil defeat by visitors Brighton & Hove Albion for whom Shane Duffy appeared for the final two minutes at Vicarage Road. 

There was a 12.30pm kick-off for the Championship meeting of Huddersfield Town and Sheffield United which ended scoreless. John Egan started while Aston Villa loanee Conor Hourihane was an unused substitute for the ‘Blades’. Barnsley shocked visitors QPR with the only goal at Oakwell where  the visitors included Jimmy Dunne and Newcastle United loanee Jeff Hendrick in their starting eleven with Hendrick withdrawn on 62 minutes. Blackpool went down to a two one defeat by visitors AFC Bournemouth who included Mark Travers in their side. Sean McLoughlin was in action with Hull City who lost to the only goal from leaders Fulham. Brighton & Hove Albion loanee Aaron Connolly started and scored his first goal for Middlesbrough who defeated visitors Derby County by four goals to one. Jason Knight started while Festy Ebosele was a half-time substitute with Eiran Cashin unused on the bench. Millwall and Danny McNamara defeated visitors Cardiff City by two goals to one. The ‘Bluebirds’ included Mark McGuinness and Joel Bagan in their starting eleven with Bagan scoring their goal in added time. Sam Szmodics was an unused substitute for Peterborough United who went down to a one nil defeat by visitors Preston North End with Alan Browne providing the assist for the goal.

AFC Wimbledon played out a one all draw with visitors Sunderland and Denis Cirkin in League One. Anthony Scully provided  the assist for the Lincoln City goal in their one all draw with visitors Wycombe Wanderers for whom Daryl Horgan was a 78th minute substitute. MK Dons included Warren O’Hora and loanees Conor Coventry and Troy Parrott in their side for the scoreless draw with visitors Ipswich Town. Mark Sykes was in action with Oxford United who went down to a three two defeat by visitors Bolton Wanderers. The Portsmouth contingent of loanee Gavin Bazunu, Sean Raggett, Ronan Curtis and Marcus Harness  all started while loanee Aiden O’Brien was an 80th minute substitute who scored  one minute after his introduction  in their four nil victory over bottom side Doncaster Rovers and their loanee Ademipo Odubeko who was a 60th minute substitute. Raggett was also on the scoresheet for ‘Pompey’.  Wigan Athletic had Will Keane back in action after injury and he netted  from the penalty spot in their two one victory over visitors Charlton Athletic. James McClean was also in action for the victors but  Jamie McGrath missed out..

Josh Cullen was in Belgian First Division action with RSC Anderlecht who defeated their hosts SV Zulte Waregem by two goals to one in their 7.45pm kick-off.
