Midweek action continues overseas…18/02/2022

 

Friday
League One leaders Rotherham United and second place Wigan Athletic played out a one all draw at Millmoor this Friday evening. Ireland manager  Stephen Kenny was expected  to be in attendance with Chiedoze Ogbene, who started and provided  the assist for the ‘Millers’ goal, and 71st minute substitute Joshua Kayode members of the host squad while 71st minute substitute Will Keane and starter James McClean were involved with the visitors.

Thursday
Glasgow Celtic were in European Conference League action on Thursday night when they went down to a three one defeat by Norwegian side Bodo/Glimpt in Celtic Park. Liam Scales and James McCarthy were unused on the substitute bench.

Wednesday
There is more Championship action set for Wednesday evening with relegation candidates Peterborough United  and Reading meeting at London Road. The hosts include Sam Szmodics in their matchday squad but Jack Taylor remains on the injury list. 

Tuesday
There was Premier League action on Tuesday evening with Manchester United defeating visitors Brighton & Hove Albion by two goals to nil . Visiting captain Lewis Dunk was dismissed on 54 minutes while Shane Duffy and Evan Ferguson were unused on their substitute bench.

Aberdeen included Jonny Hayes in their starting eleven for the Scottish Premiership visit of St Johnstone for whom Dan Cleary started with John Mahon unused on their bench as the sides played out a one all draw.

The Championship continued on Tuesday evening with Cardiff City playing host to Coventry City. The ‘Bluebirds’ included Mark McGuinness and Joel Bagan in their starting eleven and Bagan scored a delightful opening goal on 72 minutes and was named ‘Man of the Match’ as the ‘Bluebirds’ secured  a two nil victory. The New Den hosted the clash of London rivals Millwall and QPR with Danny McNamara for the ‘Lions’ in opposition to the visitors Jimmy Dunne as the hosts secured  a two nil victory. Newcastle United loanee Jeff Hendrick was unused on the bench for QPR.. Sheffield United included John Egan and Aston Villa loanee Conor Hourihane in their starting eleven as they were held to a scoreless draw by visitors Hull City who included Sean McLoughlin in their side.

Anthony Scully was an 82nd minute substitute for Lincoln City in their shock League One home defeat by bottom side Doncaster Rovers for whom West Ham United loanee Ademipo Odubeko was also an 82nd minute substitute. Promotion chasing Wigan Athletic included Will Keane and James McClean in their starting eleven for their two nil victory over visitors Crewe Alexandra. McClean provided  the assist for the opening goal and scored  the second himself. 

Monday
The Hawthorns hosted the Championship meeting of West Bromwich Albion and Blackburn Rovers which ended  scoreless on Monday evening. The hosts included Callum Robinson and Brighton & Hove Albion loanee Jayson Molumby in their starting eleven with Dara O’Shea unused on the substitute bench while Darragh Lenihan missed out for the visitors through suspension.
