European Second Round second leg action…29/07/2021

The second legs in the second qualifying round of the Europa Conference League took place this week with Airtricity League representatives Bohemian and Dundalk both in action on Thursday evening.

Bohemian built on their one nil advantage from their away first leg against F91 Dudelange of Luxembourg with a three nil success against their visitors in the second leg on Thursday evening in the Aviva Stadium in front of a crowd capped at eight thousand. Rob Cornwall opened the scoring on 35 minutes following an excellent free kick situation and Georgie Kelly reprised the free kick routine with the second goal on 69 minutes. Kelly added  a third four minutes later to set up a third round encounter with PAOK of Greece with the first leg set for the Aviva Stadium 5.45pm on Tuesday the 3rd August.

Dundalk faced a difficult challenge when they met Levadia of Estonia in Tallinn at 5.30pm on Thursday afternoon following their two all draw in the home leg played last week in Tallaght Stadium. The task grew harder when they conceded  the opening goal after 17 minutes  but the ‘Lilywhites’ rose to the task and David McMillan levelled matters just a minute before the half-time break. It looked very much like extra-time was on the cards but in the second minute of added time Will Patching found the net to secure a 4-3 aggregate success and send Dundalk through to the third round where they will face Vitesse of Holland with the first leg set for Arnhem at 6pm on Thursday the 5th August.

Shamrock Rovers received  a bye to the third round where they will face Teuta Durres of Albania with the first leg set for Tallaght Stadium at 8pm on Thursday the 5th August.
