The first League One play-off semi-final was decided this Thursday evening in Fratton Park when Portsmouth failed to overturn their one nil first leg deficit in a scoreless draw with visitors Sunderland.
Ronan Curtis was an unused substitute for ‘Pompey’ while injury ruled Aiden McGeady out of the visitors squad with Burnley loanee Jimmy Dunne also consigned to the substitute bench.
The second semi-final was decided at the Valley on Friday evening with hosts Charlton Athletic prevailing by four goals to three in a penalty shoot-out after visitors Doncaster Rovers recovered from their two one first leg deficit to record a three two victory after extra-time. West ham United loanee Josh Cullen was again neat and tidy in midfield for the ‘Addicks’ while Kieran Sadlier was an extra-time substitute for the visitors. Both Cullen and Sadlier converted their kicks in the penalty shoot-out.
The play-off final to determine which of Charlton Athletic and Sunderland will earn promotion to the Championship will take place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday the 24th May 2019.
