More Airtricity League action this weekend…03/07/2021


The Airtricity League Premier Division continued on Friday evening with Shamrock Rovers going three points clear at the top following their three one victory over Dundalk in Tallaght Stadium. St Patrick’s Athletic made the short journey to fourth place Bohemian where they suffered  a three two defeat compounded by two red cards  in Dalymount Park. Drogheda United recovered from the concession of an early goal to defeat visitors Finn Harps by three goals to one at Head in the Game Park. Derry City secured three points with a two nil victory over visitors Waterford  in the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

 
Sligo Rovers maintained their challenge at the summit with a one nil victory over bottom side Longford Town at Bishopsgate on Saturday evening.

All ten Airtricity League First Division clubs were in Friday night action with  leaders Shelbourne  scoring the only goal to defeat visitors Cabinteely in Tolka Park while Galway United and Treaty United share second place with identical records as the ‘Clarets’ defeated UCD by two goals to nil in The Bowl while the Limerick side secured a three two victory over Cork City in Turner’s Cross. Bray Wanderers defeated visitors Cobh Ramblers by two goals to one in the Carlisle Grounds. Bottom side Wexford suffered bitter disappointment in Ferrycarrig Park when they conceded two late goals in a four all draw with visitors Athlone Town.

Friday night in the Airtricity League…26/06/2021


There were four Airtricity League Premier Division fixtures played on Friday evening. Current leaders St Patrick’s Athletic travelled South to take on ninth place Waterford in the RSC where they were held to a one all draw while second place Shamrock Rovers welcomed Drogheda United to Tallaght Stadium and they too were held to a one all draw. Dundalk defeated Derry City by two goals to one in Oriel Park where Chris Shields played his last game for the ‘Lilywhites’ before his impending departure to Linfield in the Irish League.  Finn Harps welcoming bottom side Longford Town to Finn Park where the sides played out a one all draw.

The remaining fixture between Sligo Rovers and in-form Bohemian took place in the Showgrounds on Saturday evening and saw the hosts secure a stunning four nil victory which sees them join St Patrick’s Athletic and Shamrock Rovers at the summit of the league table.

There were four Airtricity League First Division contests played on Friday evening with leaders Shelbourne  defeating struggling Cork City by two goals to one in Tolka Park. Treaty United went down to a one nil defeat by West Coast neighbours Galway United in the Markets Field  while UCD made the short journey to take on Cabinteely at Stradbrook where they prevailed by two goals to one. Athlone Town and visitors Bray Wanderers played out a scoreless draw while the bottom duo, Cobh Ramblers and Wexford faced each other in St Colman’s Park on Saturday evening where the hosts prevailed by three goals to two.

Monday night in the Airtricity League…21/06/2021


The Airtricity League Premier Division continued on Monday night with all ten clubs in action. Top of the bill was the Dalymount Park clash of bitter Dublin rivals Bohemian and Shamrock Rovers with the host ‘Gypsies’ prevailing by one goal to nil.  St Patrick’s Athletic leapfrogged the ‘Hoops’ into top spot on goals scored following their four one victory over Finn Harps in Richmond Park while third place Sligo Rovers played out a one all draw with much improved Derry City in the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.  The ‘Louth Derby’ meeting of Drogheda United and Dundalk in  Head in the Game Park went the way of the visiting ‘Lilywhites’ by one goal to nil while the bottom two Longford Town and Waterford locked horns in Bishopsgate with the visiting ‘Blues’ securing a two one victory.

Airtricity League continues on Friday…19/06/2021


The Airtricity League Premier Division continued on Friday evening with current leaders Shamrock Rovers journeying South to face Waterford in the RSC where they recovered from the concession of an early goal to score a comfortable four one success.  St Patrick’s Athletic superseded  Sligo Rovers in second place with a two nil victory in Richmond Park. Fourth place Drogheda United suffered a crushing five nil defeat by Bohemian in Dalymount Park who are now just one point behind the County Louth side. The North West Derby meeting of Finn Harps and Derry City in Finn Park went the way of the visiting ‘Candystripes’ by two goals to one. Strugglers Dundalk and Longford Town played out a one all draw  in Oriel Park where the ‘Lilywhites’ had former boss Vinny Perth back at the managerial helm.

There were four Airtricity League First Division contests played on Friday evening with leaders Shelbourne  scoring the only goal at bottom side Wexford in Ferrycarrig Park while second place UCD made the short journey to Bray Wanderers where they suffered a four nil defeat in the Carlisle Grounds. Athlone Town went down to a two nil defeat by visitors Cork City while Galway United scored  the only goal to defeat visitors Cabinteely in Eamonn Deacy Park.

On Saturday evening Treaty United moved up to second place with a two nil victory over Cobh Ramblers in St Colman’s Park.

UEFA 1st and 2nd Qualifying Round draws…16/06/2021


The draws for the first and second qualifying rounds of  both the Europa Champions League and the new Europa Conference League took place at UEFA Headquarters in Nyon on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, Airtricity League Champions Shamrock Rovers have been drawn against SK Slovan Bratislava of Slovakia with the first leg away on the 6th July and the second leg in Tallaght Stadium on Tuesday the 13th July. Northern Ireland champions Linfield travel to FK Zalgiris Vilnius of Lithuania in the first leg while Welsh Champions Connah’s Quay Nomads will play their first leg at home against Alashkert of Armenia.

Should the Irish and Welsh sides progress to the second qualifying round  they will face Young Boys Berne of Switzerland (Shamrock Rovers), Ferencvaros of Hungary/ Preliminary Round Qualifier (Linfield) and Teuta of Albania/Sheriff Tiraspol from Macedonia (Connah’s Quay Nomads).

In the UEFA Conference League both Bohemian and Sligo Rovers have been drawn against Icelandic opposition in St Jarnan and FH Hafnarfjordur with the first legs away on Thursday the 8th July and the second legs at home on Thursday the 15th July.  Dundalk have been drawn against Welsh side Newtown AFC and will play the first leg at home before travelling to Wales for the second leg. Northern Irish side Coleraine travel to face FK Velez of Bosnia & Herzegovina in their first leg while the other Northern Ireland representatives Glentoran and Larne FC  face Welsh opposition in The New Saints and Bala Town respectively.

Should the three Airtricity League sides progress to the second round they will face Levadia Tallinn of Estonia/St Joseph’s of Gibraltar (Dundalk),  Dudelange FC  from Luxembourg (Bohemian) and Rosenborg of Norway (Sligo Rovers).

 

Airtricity League resumes following break…12/06/2021


Following the mid-season break, the Airtricity League Premier Division resumed with three contests played this Friday evening. Derry City welcomed Bohemian to the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium where the sides played out a one all draw while Dundalk, despite taking the lead, suffered a surprise three one defeat by visitors Waterford in Oriel Park. Shamrock Rovers also took a very early lead but were pegged back by visitors Finn Harps with a second half goal in Tallaght Stadium.

The two remaining Series 15 contests took place on Saturday evening with Longford Town going down to a three one defeat by visitors St Patrick’s Athletic while Sligo Rovers suffered a two one defeat by Drogheda United  in the Showgrounds.

Bray Wanderers suffered a four one defeat by leaders Shelbourne in the Carlisle Grounds.  Cork City went down to a two nil defeat by visitors Cabinteely in Turners Cross.
