The visiting ‘Clarets’ named Jeff Hendrick and Kevin Long on their substitute bench with Hendrick introduced for the final ten minutes of a one all draw.
Saturday afternoon saw Shane Duffy and his Brighton & Hove Albion colleagues go down to a two nil home defeat by South Coast rivals Southampton at the Amex Stadium. Teenage striker Michael Obafemi was an unused substitute for the ‘Saints’ but Shane Long did not make the matchday squad. James McCarthy was an eighty third minute substitute for Crystal Palace who scored a late winner for a two one victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford. Callum Robinson started for Sheffield United who went down to a two one defeat by Leicester City at Bramall Lane. His international colleagues John Egan, Enda Stevens and David McGoldrick were all in the starting eleven for the ‘Blades’, but Robinson and McGoldrick were both withdrawn after 54 minutes.
Weekend action in the Premier League commenced at 8pm on Friday evening at Villa Park where Aston Villa secured their first points of the season with a two nil defeat of visitors Everton. New club captain Seamus Coleman was in action for the ‘Toffees’ but Conor Hourihane was unused on the host substitute bench.
