Bohemian learn UEFA Youth League opponent…03/09/2019

Bohemian U19 will face PAOK FC of Greece in the two-legged first round of the European Champions Youth League. The first leg is set for Dalymount Park on Wednesday 2 October 2019 with the second leg three weeks later on Wednesday 23 October 2019 in Thessaloniki.

The winners of this first round tie will meet the successful side from the Dynamo Kiev (Ukraine) v KF Shkendija (Macedonia) first round contest on 6th and 27th November 2019, with the first leg away. 

Senior Women commence European qualifying campaign…03/09/2019

Our senior women, guided by acting Head Coach Tom O’Connor, commenced their 2021 European Championship qualifying campaign with a two nil victory over Montenegro in Tallaght Stadium this Tuesday evening.

Ireland opened  the scoring after 7 minutes through Tyler Toland and dominated proceedings throughout. The ability to convert goalscoring chances, however, remains an ongoing problem. Our second decisive goal came after 68 minutes through captain Katie McCabe from the penalty spot following a handball incident.

Airtricity Premier action on Monday night…02/09/2019

There were two re-scheduled Airtricity League Premier Division matches played on Monday evening. Cork City play host to Munster rivals Waterford in Turner’s Cross with the visitors coming from behind to secure a two one victory while current leaders Dundalk secured a comfortable two nil victory over Sligo Rovers in the Showgrounds to go seven points clear at the summit with a match in hand.

International Team updates…02/09/2019

There have been four withdrawals from the senior Ireland squad for the upcoming fixtures against Switzerland and Bulgaria. Goalkeeper Keiren Westwood, defender Matt Doherty, midfielder James McCarthy and forward Sean Maguire are out of the squad through injury and lack of fitness. Goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara, defender Cyrus Christie and forward James Collins will join the squad on Monday morning as replacements.

Stoke City defender Nathan Collins (calf) and Southampton striker Michael Obafemi (hamstring) have both withdrawn from the U21 squad for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Armenia and Sweden. They will be replaced by Kameron Ledwidge (Southampton) and Simon Power (Ross County on loan from Norwich City).

The last minute deadline day transfer of U21 defender Lee O’Connor from Manchester United to Glasgow Celtic on a four year deal came completely out of the blue with O’Connor missing out on the opening Ireland U21 training session on Monday.

Premier League action this weekend…01/09/2019

Captain Seamus Coleman was in fine form for Everton who defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers by three goals to two in an entertaining Goodison Park encounter on Sunday afternoon. Matt Doherty missed out for the visitors through a combination of illness and injury and is  a doubt for our upcoming internatioonal fixtures.

The Premier League continued on Saturday with Southampton playing out a one all draw with visitors Manchester United at St Mary’s Stadium. Michael Obafemi missed out with a hamstring injury while Shane Long was a 62nd minute substitute for the ‘Saints’. The Sheffield United trio of John Egan, Enda Stevens and Callum Robinson started, with David McGoldrick a 63rd minute substitute, as their side recovered from a two goal deficit to earn a draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Robinson scored his first Premier League goal one minute into the second half with Stevens the creator. James McCarthy was an unused substitute as his Crystal Palace defeated visitors Aston Villa with the only goal at Selhurst Park where Conor Hourihane was a 71st minute substitute for the visitors. Aaron Connolly made his Premier League debut as a 66th minute substitute for Brighton & Hove Albion in their four nil defeat at Manchester City while Shane Duffy was an unused substitute. Ciaran Clark was also an unused substitute for Newcastle United who were held to a one all draw by Watford at St James Park. The late kick-off saw visitors Liverpool defeat Burnley by three goals to nil at Turf Moor where Jeff Hendrick and Kevin Long were unused substitutes for the hosts while goalkeeper Caomihin Kelleher was on the Liverpool bench.

In the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon, Glenn Whelan completed the full ninety minutes for Heart of Midlothian in their two all draw with Tynecastle visitors Hamilton Academical. Also in the ‘Jam Tarts’ starting eleven were Colin Doyle, Jake Mulraney and Adrian White.

 

The Championship and League One on Saturday…31/08/2019

Following the one all draw between Cardiff City and Fulham in the Championship on Friday evening, which saw Harry Arter red carded, the competition continued on Saturday afternoon.

First into action at 12.30pm in Ashton Gate were Bristol City for who 66th minute substitute Callum O’Dowda created the late equaliser in their two all draw with visitors Middlesbrough for whom  Darren Randolph was in action. At the regular 3pm kick-off time, Birmingham City with Daniel Crowley a 54th minute substitute came from behind to defeat visitors Stoke City by two goals to one. James McClean and Stephen Ward started for the visitors with Scott Hogan replacing Ward on 79 minutes. Derby County with Richard Keogh and Jason Knight in their starting eleven went down to a three nil defeat at  Brentford. Kenilworth Road hosted the meeting of Luton Town and Huddersfield Town where James Collins converted a penalty in the ‘Hatters’ two one success. The New Den was the venue for the clash of Millwall, for whom Alex Pearce started with Jayson Molumby, Aiden O’Brien and Shaun Williams on the bench in their one all draw with Hull City. Preston North End included Alan Browne and Joe Rafferty  in their starting eleven for their one all draw at Nottingham Forest but an eye injury ruled out Sean Maguire. Reading introduced Josh Barrett as a very late substitute in their two nil home defeat by  Charlton Athletic for whom Josh Cullen was in fine midfield action. Sheffield Wednesday and Keiren Westwood went down to a two one defeat by visitors QPR at Hillsborough where Ryan Manning continued in his left wing back role. U21 centre back Dara O’Shea was an unused substitute for West Bromwich Albion who defeated visitors Blackburn Rovers by three goals to two. Greg Cunningham, Daragh Lenihan and Derrick Williams all started for the visitors

League One
Ronan Curtis and Marcus Harness, who scored, started for Portsmouth in their one all draw at Blackpool while Burton Albion and loanee goalkeeper Kieran O’Hara defeated visitors Bristol Rovers by two goals to nil. Ipswich Town included Alan Judge in their starting eleven for their three nil victory over visitors Shrewsbury Town for whom goalkeeper  Max O’Leary also started at Portman Road.
